This year’s conference will gather stakeholders from across the public and private sectors, academia, civil society organisations, and Indigenous representatives to discuss well-being in mining regions, focusing on two pillars:

1. Partnering for sustained development in mining regions

2. Future-proofing regional mineral supply for the energy transition

The 17th edition of the Forum will reflect longstanding and emerging priorities in fostering responsible mineral supply chains, with sessions spanning often overlooked conflict risks, development minerals, regional sessions on gold supply chains, policy cohesion in an evolving regulatory landscape, and the role for responsible business conduct in government-to-government agreements on transition minerals. A key theme will be bridging longstanding focus areas like conflict financing risks with the opportunities for enhancing the sector’s contribution to sustainable development through the increasing strategic profile of transition minerals.

Mining Shared Value will be launching its new guidance for mining sector reporting on human rights due diligence during procurement of goods and services, which will complement the Mining LPRM, created in partnership with GIZ

The SHARE Investor Summit brings together institutional investors including pension funds, foundations, universities, Indigenous trusts, faith-based groups and asset managers to strengthen investor collaboration and action around the critical environmental, social and governance challenges facing capital markets.

The 2023 SHARE Investor Summit will support investment decision makers in exploring opportunities for coordinatedand impactful investor action in the context of environmental, social and governance pathways.

Jeff will be speaking on the panel Mining supply chain localisation, reindustrialisation, and reskilling; technologies role in Job creation.
The discussion will include how localisation, reskilling, and reindustrialisation are pivotal to “pandemic” proofing the mining supply chain; examining job creation withing the mining supply chain; and technology’s role in addressing unemployment.

Mining Shared Value will be at the IGF engaging with governments on local content policy.

The Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF) will convene in-person for its 18th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on November 7–10, 2022 in Geneva, Switzerland and hosted by UNCTAD. Sessions will also be live streamed for virtual attendees.

Our Managing Director will be presenting virtually as part of the 3rd ECOWAS Mining & Petroleum Forum and Exhibition, being held in Niamey, Niger.

Jeff will be speaking at the Mali Mining and Petroleum Conference and Exhibition (JMP 2021) which takes place from November 16th to November 18th, 2021. He will be speaking on the importance of local procurement and the role it can play in the economic development of Mali. There is a slight chance the event will be in person but otherwise the presentation will be carried out virtually.

Jeff will be speaking at the RE-SOURCING Virtual Conference 2021 which takes place from November 8th to November 10th, 2021. He will be participating as a panelist in the “Session on Responsible Sourcing for a Green Transition.” The panel will be tackling how a responsible supply chain can be implemented in the green transition by bringing together EU and international perspectives.

Our Managing Director Jeff Geipel will speak on the role of local procurement in responsible mining, and the potential for it to create economic benefits in Morocco.

Along with representatives of SRK Consulting and Anglo American, our Managing Director Jeff Geipel will speak as part of the session, "Developing and Measuring Sustainable and Resilient Mining Communities,” focusing on the need to measure local procurement impacts.

Now taking place online, as part of the 40th Annual Conference of the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA), we will hold a session, “Local Content Development: Advances in Approaches, Tools and Governance”, in partnership with DAI. More details to come!

Our Managing Director Jeff Geipel will be presenting, “Measuring and Managing Mining Local Procurement” at 09:00 BST on Thursday, May 13th, as part of the ESG Toolbox event overviewing trends and providing tools on managing ESG in the mining sector.

Our own Kyela de Weerdt will be speaking as part of a session focused on mining sector procurement from Indigenous-owned businesses, in the context of the Canadian Mining and Metals Plan (CMMP).
