We Work as a Resource

MSV creates and disseminates resources to help mining companies, governments, and other stakeholders
develop and operationalise local procurement policies and procedures

We Work as a Hub

MSV connects industry personnel, governments and development practitioners to create a thriving community of
practice that provides a forum for discussion and inspires new local procurement initiatives

We Work as a Champion

MSV promotes local procurement in the global mining sector by advocating for its inclusion in company
frameworks, industry standards, and government policies and programming

Our work at a glance

  • MSV works to improve the development impacts of mining by increasing the amount of goods and services mining companies purchase in host countries.

  • We work to empower mining industry actors by strengthening and disseminating research, resources, and tools that exist, most notably through our partnership with the World Bank to support the online Community of Practice: Extractives-led Local Economic Diversification (ELLED) Community of Practice (CoP). In addition, we aggregate key local procurement resources, discussions, policy changes, and much more on Twitter at ewb_msv.

  • Where there are gaps, we work to empower mining industry actors by developing research, resources, and tools to advance the issue and to unlock more evidence to support decision-making by all actors. In particular, our work has included developing a standard set of disclosures on local procurement to support mining industry management of the issue. As well, our research has spanned from site-level case studies to country-level analyses to continent-level policy examinations related to mining local procurement.
