Future of Mining Americas

Mining Shared Value will be taking part in the Future of Mining Americas conference which will address the technological advances in mining, as well as their impacts on the social landscape around the sector.

We will be drawing from the 2016 Mining a Mirage study we jointly produced with the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment (CCSI). The study shows that automation in mining will have significant impacts on the level of local hiring and procurement in the countries that host mining activity, and that both industry and governments need to take proactive steps to mitigate these negative impacts.

Download the study here: http://www.iisd.org/library/mining-mirage-reassessing-shared-value-paradigm-light-technological-advances-mining-sector

The conference will be held at: Embassy Suites by Hilton Denver Downtown Convention Center, 1420 Stout Street, Denver, CO, 80202, USA

From the organisers of the conference: "The event has been created to connect C-suite, Heads and Managers of Mine Operations and Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) providers from top enterprises around the globe to debate and define the future mining landscape on a strategic level across the Americas, allowing attendees to discover the latest innovations and technologies which are driving mine productivity, mine efficiency and mine safety."

Breakfast Roundtable hosted by CIPE in DC

MSV, hosted by the CIPE, will be holding a roundtable in Washington, D.C. to talk about its impacts to date across the global mining system, and looks forward to talking with attending organizations about directions to take, and futures to make, with stakeholders interested in mining and development.

Mining Shared Value seeks to scale-up its capacities for positively influencing the global mining system by reaching out to an international stakeholder base. It is currently in a unique position to push for industry-wide understanding and action on local procurement through establishing partnerships across sectors. Working with global players, including the World Bank, International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), and bilateral aid organizations including the German development agency (GIZ), Mining Shared Value has placed itself at the heart of global debates on natural resource governance, but must reach out further to bridge the gaps between research and practical implementation in the industry.

Introduction by CIPE

Jeff Geipel, Founder and Managing Director, Mining Shared Value

Karl-Axel Waplan, Chair of the Mining Shared Value Advisory Council – via video stream
